A state-level training session titled “Understanding Climate Change and Heat-Related Illnesses: A Guide for Health Professionals” was recently conducted to enhance the capacity of healthcare personnel across Uttarakhand. The training was covered under Continued Medical Education under the guidance of the Mission Director and the Director NHM, Uttarakhand. The training was provided by Mr. Charu Chandra Devshali, Technical Consultant for the National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health (NPCCHH), the session aimed to strengthen the health system’s preparedness and response to the growing risks of heatwaves due to climate change under the leadership of State Nodal Officer NPCCHH, Dr Akanksha Nirala. The training covered essential topics including the impact of rising temperatures on human health, identification and management of heat-related illnesses (HRIs), interpreting IMD heatwave alerts, facility-level preparedness measures, and reporting protocols via the Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP). Participants gained practical insights on early detection, rapid emergency cooling strategies, and public advisories essential for mitigating heat-related health impacts.Training Slides on CC and Heat
