Janani Suraksha Yojana(JSY)

Introduction
Launched in 2005, JSY is a conditional Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme aimed at reducing maternal and neonatal mortality by promoting institutional deliveries. It provides financial incentives to pregnant women to deliver in health facilities.
Objectives
- To ensure safe institutional deliveries by providing financial assistance to pregnant women.
- To reduce maternal and neonatal mortality by improving access to skilled birth attendants.
- To encourage antenatal care (ANC) and postnatal care (PNC) through community-level interventions.
Eligibility Criteria
- Available to all women, regardless of age and number of children, for delivery in government or accredited private health facilities.
- Available to all BPL women who prefer to deliver at home, regardless of age and number of children.
Financial Assistance
JSY provides incentives to pregnant women and ASHAs for facilitating institutional deliveries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
For Institutional Deliveries:
Incentive for Pregnant Women:
- ₹1,400 for rural deliveries.
- ₹1,000 for urban deliveries.
Incentive for ASHAs:
- ₹600 for rural deliveries.
- ₹400 for urban deliveries.
Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) receive incentives for ANC check-ups and mobilizing women for institutional deliveries.
For Home Deliveries:
- Available only to BPL women who prefer to deliver at home, regardless of age and number of children.
- Financial assistance of ₹500 for both rural and urban deliveries.
Implementation
- ASHAs and ANMs play a key role in identifying beneficiaries, ensuring ANC check-ups, escorting women for delivery, and promoting postnatal care.
- JSY integrates with Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK) to provide free delivery, medicines, transportation, and diet.

How To Apply
Government hospital in the state will provide an incentive amount of Rs. 1400/- for rural pregnant women delivery in he government health facility and Rs. 1000/- for urban pregnant women delivery in the government health facility.
