Since Year 2014-15 , the program is being administered in 6 districts namely Dehradun , Haridwar , Pauri ,Tehri, UdhamSingh Nagar and Nainital under which 11 lakh adolescents are being benifited.
Under this program 62 block-level Adolescent Friendly Health Counselling Clinics have been established in which Government Medical College Srinagar and Haldwani, district hospitals, sub-district hospitals , Block level Community Health Centres and Primary Health Centres are included.74 adolescent health counsellors have been appointed to operate the adolescent friendly health counselling centres.
The aim of this program is to provide all types of information regarding personal health, physical development and mental stress counselling, sexual reproductive health services, clearing of misconceptions and counselling, nutrition and diet related problems with their solutions, iron supplements, prevention and advise related to Narcotic drugs consumption, violence (gender based) prevention and consultation, lifestyle change related diseases and their cure to all the adolescents of age 10 -19 years.
Activities of the Program:
In given health clinics one-one counsellor is appointed and in district hospital and medical colleges two-two counsellors are appointed.
All these counsellors are trained regarding adolescent health at state level.
In adolescent health clinics counsellors themselves provide the counselling whereas diagnosis and treatment is carried out by doctors.
Total 147 doctors are trained in Adolescent Friendly HealthServices .
During field visits, the counsellors discuss and spread awareness in residential and community schools( from classes 6 to 12) about nutritious food, daily routine, regular yoga, cleanliness, side effects of addiction( from consuming alcohol, tobacco and other intoxicating substances), mental health ,sports and necessity of cleanliness.
After the selection procedure the P.E. are given training regarding the components of the program for six days.
The Saathiya’s’ make their own groups.
Groups of 15-20 Male adolescents are made by the Male Saathiya and the same way groups of 15-20 Female adolescents are made by the Female Saathiya.
Information regarding adolescent health is provided by this group for two hours per day two days in a week.
For this work, every “Saathiya” is provided utilities worth Rs.50 (which are useful for adolescents) by their respective blocks.
In present total 8800 adolescents are selected till now. Out of these 6 districts 1200 in Dehradun, 1100 in Haridwar, 1500 in Nainital, 1100 in Udham Singh Nagar,1500 in Tehri and 2400 in Pauri.
The training for all of them was completed in February 2022.
Every month a meeting of “Saathiya” Members is held at the Sub- Centre Level in which they exchange their thoughts about the implementation of the program and the problems related to it. If needed they contact their respective region’s A.N.M./Aasha or Adolescent Health Counsellor or Aasha Facilitator for the solution of the problems faced.
They also maintain a “Saathiya Diary” and refreshments are provided to them in the meanwhile.
Under this program blue tablets of Iron is given to the adolescents(of age 10-19 years) of every government school ,government aided school and even to adolescents who does not attend the school through /in Anganwadi Centres.
Under the Rashtriya Kishor SwasthyaKaryakram, a helpline number- 18001801200/104 is being operated by the National Health Mission.
In this helpline the adolescents can seek for solutions to any kind of their problems.
The Helpline is operational from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and is Toll-Free.
Now the FY 2022 -23 the services extended in 3 New Districts i.e Almora, Bageshwar and Rudraprayag.
