State Blood Cell

State Blood Cell was started in the Financial Year 2015-16 to redress the blood transfusion services in the state as the blood transfusion service is an important part of the National Health Service as there is no alternative to human blood and its components. Due to the availability of blood bank or blood storage center, maternal death can be reduced and it is also useful in accident and emergency situations.

The main objective of state blood cell is as follow:-

  • Review the status of blood services in the state and address the gap to ensure availability and accessibility of safe and quality blood
  • Provide adequate infra-structure, equipments, trained and adequate power for Well-organized Blood Services.
  • It’s work to ensure equitable blood supply, distribution.
  • To provide blood from blood donor to the needy person effectively and efficiently with maintaining the quality of blood under the blood transfusion service, for which blood cell is organizing and providing the necessary equipment’s, human resources, training, basic structure and Consumable in the Blood banks and Blood Storage Centers.

At present, Uttarakhand has total 51 blood banks (22 are present in state level facilities, 4 are in Central level facilities and remaining 25 are in private or charitable blood banks) and 19 Blood Storage centers. List of blood banks & blood storage centers is as follows:

Innovation

For the modernization of blood banks in the state it is necessary to have an e-Blood Banking system, in which e-Raktkosh system has been used to link the blood banks of the state, in order to ensure efficient and effective storage of safe and quality blood, voluntary blood donation, reducing waste of blood and complying with guidelines and regulations.
