In 1974 prevalence of blindness in India was 1.4%. In 1976 national programe for control of blindness was launched as 100% centrally sponsored scheme with the goal of reducing the prevalence of blindness to 0.3% by 2020. At present prevalence is 0.56% in Uttarakhand. Main causes of blindness :- 1. Cataract 62.6% in + 50 population 2. Refractive Error 19.7% 3. Other Eye disease including cornea, Glaucoma and Retinal diseases 17.7% Facility for Cataract operation is available in 6 combined hospital, 10 district hospital, 2 Base hospital and 2 Govt. Medical colleges. Aim:- 1. To bring down prevalence to 0.3% by year 2020. 2. Increase outreach services to provide eye care to poor, under privilege population. 3. To provide quality eye care by procuring latest equipments and Training of eye surgeons, PMOA and staff nurses in latest techniques. |
