ROUTINE IMMUNIZATION

o Immunization Programme in India was introduced in 1978 as Expanded Programme of Immunization (EPI).

o UIP become a part of Child Survival and Safe Motherhood Programme in 1992 Since, 1997, immunization activities have been an important component of National Reproductive and Child Health Programme and is currently one of the key areas under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) since 2005.

o Uttarakhand is providing immunization services against 12 vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs) and these vaccines plays vital role in consistent decline in Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Under 5 Mortality Rate (U5MR).

 

Service Providers

 

Routine Immunization

 

ANM at sub centre and APHC/ PHC/CHC/ District Hospital

 

1st Wednesday of every month at sub centre and in District Hospitals every Wednesday.

 

Out reach sessions to be held on every Saturday(VHND)

 

Sessions sites are either Aaganwadi centre / Panchayat Bhawan/ Schools.

o In NFHS-5 Routine Immunization coverage of Uttarakhand has increased to 81% as compare to 58% in NFHS-4.

o In year 2020-21, state has achieved 96 %Full Immunization Coverage against GOI Targets, total 176152 infants were fully immunized against target of 183008.

o Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI4.0): Government of India has launched nationwide intensified RI drive to close the immunization gap. There are 3 districts (Bageshwar, Champawat, Tehri, Haridwar) included for Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI 4.0) from Feb 2022 to April 2022 in the State of Uttarakhand. In the IMI total three rounds are conducted and total 770 sessions were held in which 9885 children and 6277 pregnant women were immunized.

o Sub-National Immunization Days (SNID) - Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Program: (19 June to 25 June 2022): Total 1000074 children (0-5 year’s age) in high-risk areas of 7 districts were given polio drops in June 2022 SNID rounds.
