PROGRAMME BACKGROUND

To prevent and control of common NCDs, the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) was launched in 2010 with focus on strengthening infrastructure, human resource development, health promotion, early diagnosis, management and referral.

Under NPCDCS, NCD Cells were established at National, State and District levels for programme management, and NCD Clinics were set up at District and CHC levels, to provide services for early diagnosis, treatment and follow-up for common NCDs. Provision has been made under the programme to provide free diagnostic facilities and drugs for patients attending the NCD clinics. Cardiac Care Units (CCU) are also being set up in identified districts for providing facilities for emergency Cardiac Care.

RECENT INITIATIVES UNDER NPCDCS

  • Cancer Day Care Centres are been established at all 13 districts to provide chemotherapy, pain management and other day care related services to the cancer patients in the respective districts.
  • India Hypertension Control Initiative program started in the month of march with joining of WHO CVHO Consultant and Technical Assistant from ICMR joined in April & May 2022.

The following activities have been accomplished under IHCI program-

  • Treatment protocol for HTN and DM is finalised.
  • Technical assistant appointed in 2 selected districts.
  • District wise indent for antihypertensive /anti diabetic drug generated and shared with DG for procurement.
